Ngorongoro Crater
The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is home to the world’s largest volcanic caldera, formed millions of years ago by a massive eruption. Often called the “8th wonder of the world,” the Ngorongoro Crater is famous for its incredibly dense wildlife population, all contained within the crater’s floor. It’s one of the best places in Tanzania to spot the elusive rhino, alongside a rich variety of other animals. The crater’s 10-mile-wide floor, surrounded by walls rising 2,000 feet, shelters a uniquely diverse ecosystem that feels both intimate and awe-inspiring. Watching the sun set over the crater rim is an unforgettable experience, painting the landscape in golden light and revealing nature at its most majestic.
